Going For Gold Gala Ball
Marathon Gala Ball
The Bloomsbury Club, London WC1
Thursday 29th November 2007

Spinal Injuries Association (SIA) is delighted to be the ‘Official Charity’ of
the 2008 Flora London Marathon. We are celebrating this prestigious nomination
by inviting supporters to a star-studded fundraising gala evening at The
Bloomsbury Club in London on Thursday 29 November!

As Official Charity for the world’s greatest marathon, SIA is seizing the
opportunity to raise awareness of Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) and at the same time
launch an exciting new initiative, Rebuilding Lives Through Sport (RLTS).
The RLTS project will inject much-needed funds into wheelchair sports and give
people who have suffered a SCI the chance to participate in sport, some for the
first time in their lives. Sport has proved a crucial route to reclaiming
independence and full lives for so many disabled people and yet only a tiny
proportion of wheelchair users take part in any kind of regular sporting
activity (less than 2% in the UK). SIA will fund this important project from
sponsorship money raised by the charity’s runners in the 2008 Flora London
Marathon. SIA has been awarded hundreds of guaranteed places in the event and
half of the money raised by ‘Team SIA’ runners will be donated to help
wheelchair sports in the UK!
SIA’s patron, HRH The Princess Royal, will officially launch the RLTS project at
the gala event, which is being organised by SIA’s events department and a
committee chaired by 5,000 metre World Record holder and Chief Executive of
British Athletics, Dave Moorcroft. Many other celebrities from the sporting
world have already offered their support and good wishes.
Sponsored by Norwich Union, the gala promises to be a truly wonderful evening
with sporting celebrity guests, TV highlights of legendary moments in sporting
history and interviews with the sports stars conducted by our guest compères,
including Des Lynam. It will also feature a fabulous auction with Charlie Ross
(of the BBC’s ‘Flog It’ fame), plus lots of surprises and famous faces!
We cordially invite you to join us for this truly memorable occasion!
Tables are priced at £2,000 (for a table of 10) and include Champagne reception,
superb three course dinner prepared by award-winning chef Jeff Galvin and
complimentary bar.
Echoed in the ‘Going for Gold Gala’ theme, Rebuilding Lives Through Sport is
about being the best you can be and transforming lives. It reflects the core
ethos of SIA which is that “Life needn’t stop when you’re paralysed”.
