Ongoing Research
The Functional Assessment and Restoration Service provides a consultant led service which enables patients to have access to the latest and future technology. This can enable people to achieve a higher degree of independent living through functional restoration.
The service provides extensive assessment and counselling on a wide range of technologies to improve and restore lost function. These include restoration of pelvic dysfunction such as bladder, bowel and fertility, and muscle disorders such as paralysis and spasm. The FAR Service works in close collaboration with the Spinal Research Centre providing a platform for translating clinical research into practice to benefit patients.
Range of Services
- Bladder, bowel and sexual control through implantable neuroprosthetic devices (Sacral (Posterior) and Anterior Root Stimulator Implants - SARSI/SPARSI)
- Spasm control through implantable devices
- Neurological Function Assessment tools to assess outcome following spinal surgery
- Disuse Osteoporosis - assessment and prevention of disuse osteoporosis, and collaboration with UCL Stone committee to investigate links with stone formation
