On Wednesday 11th May SIA joined thousands of disabled people, their families and supporters from all over the country to march on the Houses of Parliament. The march and mass lobby of MPs was arranged to highlight the serious affects that Government policies are having on disabled people. With cuts to Local Authority services and budgets, the abolition of the Independent Living Fund and the replacement of DLA and Incapacity Benefit with Employment Spport Allowance and Personal Independence Payments, disabled people's lives and independence are being disproportionally affected by a Government which claims "We are all in this together".
SIA has produced a briefing sheet on the issues facing Spinal Cord Injured people as a result of recent Government policies which can be downloaded here

The day before the march the You and Yours Programme on Radio 4 posed the question "are disabled people more severely affected by the spending cuts and welfare reform than anyone else?" - to hear the broadcast go to: www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b010xzzh
