Fears have been raised over the future of the spinal injuries centre at Pinderfields Hospital, Wakefield. A campaign group was formed after it was included in a review of hospital services. Members of the campaign group which is titled Keep Spinal Injuries at Pinderfields (KSIP) were interviewed on the evening edition of the Calendar news programme on Yorkshire TV on January 5th, you can find out more about the group and view the programme on YouTube .
An Upate follows from Kevan Baker OBE, Chair, Keep Spinal Injuries at Pinderfields,
This was posted on the SIA Message Board 16th February
The reason 'why' they included the SIC at Pinderfields in their services review is that they say they are being pressured by Commissioners to optimise the Wakefield (Pinderfields) site for the people of Wakefield and that Spinal Injury services do not only include Wakefield but rather the wider population of Yorkshire and Humberside.
They went on to state their desire to work with our Group (Keep Spinal Injuries at Pinderfields) saying that they needed us to assist them.
They also stated that the Review would now be put back to report in December 2012 rather than in March as originally reported.
We discussed lots of options with them, notably, the potential to set up a Patient Liaison Group (similar to the Stoke Mandeville model), which would have a voice up to the Clinical Management Meetings, which is being considered as a viable option.
We also discussed 'developing' the SIC, rather than seemingly allowing it to effectively die in its current form. This was also accepted as a potential option.
The next meeting will be arranged by Mgt soon and I have challenged them to meet us on the SIC - somewhere they have never set foot apparently, which has been accepted. Hopefully this next meeting will include the new Chief Executive.
We will continue campaigning.
Regards
Kevan Baker OBE
Chairman - Keep Spinal Injuries at Pinderfields
