Vehicle Tax

Just a reminder for anyone who wasn’t aware that the process around obtaining exemption from vehicle tax has now changed.   If you are on the Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance you are entitled to free vehicle tax and previously this would mean that you would need to obtain a DLA404 certificate.  This is no longer the case, a certificate of entitlement is now automatically sent to anyone awarded this level of benefit.  You will also be sent a leaflet (DLA403) which will tell you how to get your free vehicle tax disc using the certificate.  Once you have done this the first time, the Disability Living Allowance Unit will automatically send you a Certificate of Entitlement every year that you continue to receive the DLA at that level.

For those of you who still have a DLA404 certificate you can continue to use this to get a free vehicle tax disc.  Once it is full you will need to contact the Disability Living Allowance Unit and ask for a Certificate of Entitlement to carry on getting your vehicle tax discs.

NB We apologise to readers of Forward who will have seen the DLA404 mentioned incorrectly in a You Ask Us item in the October Issue.  Our Advice Line team work hard to ensure that the information they provide is accurate and current but in this instance the change in process was not properly noted.  We apologise for any confusion caused.
