I was a member of the Community Regional Awards Funding Committee in the South West for five years, and was awarded an MBE on completion of my time with the organisation. Whilst involved, we awarded over £100m to charitable organisations in the South West and I continue to keep up to date with funding issues, being current Chair of the South West Foundation. I have an interest in health and social care through my own personal experiences and those gained through my work as former Chair of the Cornwall County Council Adoption Panel. I am Trustee/Director and Chair of the Cornwall Mobility Centre and Chair of Disability Cornwall and lead on their social policy group, ADjust (Awareness of Disability Justice). I sustained a C5 incomplete injury following a diving accident in 1985, and am happily married to Liz, whom I met whilst she was a Sister on the spinal unit at Salisbury. Between us we have a wide and varied knowledge of the issues that affect spinal cord injured people.
