When planning your holiday, especially if it is your first one post injury you may find it helpful to chat with other SCI people to find out about their experiences and gather any helpful information they can provide.   On the SIA Message Board we have a forum that is dedicated to Holidays and Travel, this is an ideal place to ask questions and get advice from other people.  This link will take you to the Forum but if you want to post any questions you will need to be registered and logged on as a forum user. 

SIA have also produced some fact sheets that can help you when you are planning your holiday.   

Preparing for a holiday abroad - written by our Advice Line staff, this fact sheet will be particularly helpful for people planning their first trip abroad post injury.

Before you even book a flight take a look at these publications  EU Regulations on Air Travel from SIA and Your Rights to Fly - What you need to know which is produced by the Department of Transport and the Equality and Human Rights Commission and provides a step by step guide for disabled and less mobile passengers.

Insurance - includes information about the European Health Insurance card and how to get it, along with details of specialist insurance companies. 

Hiring Aids and Equipment in the UK and Abroad - for anyone thinking about hiring equipment whilst they are away. 

Continence Matters - this is a list of helpful tips for air travellers taken from SIA forward magazine.

Overseas Organisations - to find out more about accessibility, transport and other facilities in the country you are visiting you might find it helpful to contact spinal injury and other disability organizations listed in this fact sheet.
