Meet Deborah Cornwall

I joined the ranks of the SCI in 1981, the Year of Disabled People, whilst rock climbing in North Wales.  During my rehab in Southport I was lucky to meet with some fantastic ex patients who encouraged me to continue my love of sport by taking me to the Irish & British National Games.  I was hooked!  In 1988 I went to compete at fencing in the Seoul Paralympics.  I don't fence anymore but continue to play table tennis at the Centre and encourage patients to take up sport.

Within a year of my injury I was back teaching in Primary education and continued to do so for 24 years. I got married 17 years ago and John and I enjoy the freedom of caravan holidays with our puppy, Basil. In my role as Peer Advisor I hope to encourage and inspire patients to make the most of their new lives and help them to overcome some of the challenges they are now faced with.

My interests are sport, my pet dog Basil, and going on caravan holidays.  I also enjoy making greetings cards, gardening and playing table tennis.

I visit the Southport Centre on a Wednesday, usually between 2.00pm and 6.30pm.   You can also contact me via my mobile on 07826 350 246.
