I am 40 years old and sustained a C6/7 injury in 1992 after a fall from a wall. Before my injury I was working as a bricklayer and enjoyed playing rugby, squash and going out with my friends. Since my injury I have met my wife Lucy and we enjoy going on holidays, watching rugby matches, horse racing, spending time in the garden and tending to a few mad chickens! I have recently acquired a special motorized adaption to my wheelchair that enables my wife and I to go ‘off road’ and get back out into the countryside.
I have a personal assistant to help me with my daily tasks which has helped me to develop more people management skills. I have worked for SIA for the last two years and I really enjoy my work, I truly believe in SIA’s ethos of ‘…because life needn’t stop when you’re paralysed’. I have a ’can do’ attitude and don’t let obstacles get in my way. I also enjoy doing volunteer work in my local area.
I try to keep fit by doing daily exercise such as swimming and going for a push in the countryside. I have been sailing, abseiling, and camping since my accident - part of the fun is adapting and trying to find ways in which one can take part in activities.
I visit the Salisbury Centre on Wednesdays each week and am usually there between 11am and 6pm. Do come and find me and say hello! If you'd like to speak to me on the telephone between times, my mobile number is 079757 82859.
