Laura’s story

“My car accident happened in October 2018 just 4 days after my 21st birthday. I count myself lucky to still be here and owe my life and will be every thankful to the Air Ambulance and NHS staff. I spent 10 months in hospital following my accident. I have been paralyzed from my chest down.

“Having a spinal cord injury is hard I am not going to lie. It has turned my life upside down, but I am not going to let that stop me from doing things that I love and am passionate about. Yes things must be done very differently now, but with my determination, support from close family and my support workers, who are with me 24/7, I have been able to achieve so much in the last two years.

“While I was in hospital my case manager highly recommended PCS and put me in touch with Jin to support me. On meeting, we talked about being discharged from hospital and everything that would need to be in place before I could go home. PCS took all the stress away from me by sorting out my care package which is tailored to me with staff that are local to where I live.

I personally want to thank PCS, and Jin, for not just treating me as a client but as a part of a family.  In the 2 years I have been with PCS, they have made it possible for me to have as much of an independent life as I can. I do have challenges on a daily basis and yes some days my spinal injury will not allow me to do the most basic of things that other people take for granted.  PCS understands that at the end of the day, I am a typical 23-year-old who has a life to live the best way I can.”
