We’ll build a caring and committed team of case managers, medical experts and other specialists to secure your long-term care and rebuild your life.

Putting you first

We take the time to get to know our clients and their families – and to understand their particular needs. We fight our clients’ cases very hard and, working closely with the fantastic people at Spinal Injuries Association, do our very best to get you back to some sort of normality. And as quickly as possible.

We’ll always try to secure an early ‘interim payment’ to cover the cost of initial rehabilitation and other needs. We recognise how crucial early intervention can be in maximising recovery.

We routinely assist with state benefits, initial needs assessments or sourcing aids and equipment. We even help with adapting your home and can assist you with buying a new property that better suits your needs.

Our service

As a full-service law firm we offer specialist legal assistance with all legal matters that can arise in spinal cases such as family issues, making a will, creating trusts, dealing with the court of protection, financial concerns, and buying and selling property.

We’re based in Wiltshire, Hampshire and Dorset but cover the whole of the West Country, acting for injured clients wherever they may be located.

We’re only too happy to see clients at home or in hospital/spinal units. It’s whatever is convenient for you.

How we’ve helped our clients

We acted recently for a client who sustained a host of injuries, including fractures to her lower spine, serious head injuries, pelvic fractures, facial injures and delirium following an operation on her spine. The case settled out of court for a sizeable six figure sum. The client said:

From my hospital bed I heard doctors say ‘ if she survives she’ll probably never walk again’. Trethowans acted on my behalf with so much care, thought and professionalism and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them from the bottom of my heart for all of their hard work

A client in another complex case we settled last year said:

I would like to thank everyone who worked on my case. It wasn’t an easy one, but it all worked out in the end. Reassuring me. Keeping me informed throughout, being compassionate and understanding at all times. What a lovely team you are”

Meet the team

Chris Whiteley

Partner

I’m a partner in the personal injury team, based in our Salisbury office. I undertake complex work, specialising in catastrophic head and spinal injury cases, as well as birth related injuries of maximum severity. I have been accredited by the Law Society as a member of their specialist personal injury and clinical negligence panels.

James Braund

Partner

I specialise in acting for clients who’ve suffered life changing injuries, including severe spinal injuries. Litigation can be stressful, particularly when clients are dealing with serious injuries. The Chambers and Partners Legal Review Directory 2021 said that I had “particular strength in spinal cord injury claims”.

Adele Martin

Paralegal

I’m a paralegal in the firm’s personal injury team, based in Salisbury. I’m usually the first contact for any new enquiries. I also head up legal clinics at the Help for Heroes Recovery Centre for the south of England, helping wounded members of the armed forces and their families. I also organise our annual Charity Dinner in aid of Spinal Injuries Association.

Frances Gillett
