SCI Nurse Specialist Service and Healthcare Professionals
If you’re a healthcare professional working in a district general hospital, rehabilitation centre or care home, our SCI Nurse Specialists Service can support you in the care of anyone with a spinal cord injury.
If you are currently involved in the care of someone with a spinal cord injury and you feel SIA’s SCI Nurse Specialists Service could help, please fill in our referral form or call 0800 980 0501.
We are also committed to improving knowledge around spinal cord injury care within non-specialist healthcare settings, with our nurses available to deliver education and training on key aspects of patient care.
Our education modules are designed to provide an overview of all aspects of care, and are available at a time and place to suit your needs. For more information on costings and content, or to book a session, please email or call Karen Mikalsen on 01908 604191.
This year, the SCI Nurse Specialists service launched the skills and competency training module, ‘Managing the neurogenic bowel’. This full day course is designed to prepare delegates with the knowledge and skills to deliver appropriate bowel management to spinal cord injured people. Delegates will examine the theory that underpins effective management of the neurogenic bowel, demonstrate their learning through a written evaluation of learning and case study work, and have their competency to safely undertake DRE, DRS and DRF signed off by one of our SCI Nurse Specialists following a practical session on an anatomical training model. See our website or contact Karen Mikalsen for more information.
This specialist education compliments SIA’s range of study days held throughout the country. For more information about all our training please visit our training and education section.
