Healthcare Professional Study Days

Our CPD-accredited Healthcare Professional Study Day programme is aimed at HCPs who work or have an interest in the field of spinal cord injury. Along with our SCI Nurse Specialists, we often invite speakers from Spinal Cord Injury Centres or other clinical settings who are experts in their field, so these days are a fantastic opportunity for non-specialist staff.

All events run 9am to 4pm (approx.) and lunch and refreshments are included.

We will hold two Study Days in 2019/20- details of upcoming sessions are below.

Caring with Confidence- a day for HCAs, PAs and carers
Tuesday 4 February 2020; MK Conferencing, Strudwick Drive, Oldbrook, Milton Keynes MK6 2TG

At the Spinal Injuries Association, we are very aware of the how the personal care provided to our members and the wider SCI community impacts on their quality of life, and have identified a real need for training in this area. Caring with Confidence is a Study Day specifically aimed at people involved in the day to day personal care of a spinal cord injured person (mainly HCAs, PAs and carers), looking at many of the key areas affected by spinal cord injury, such as the importance of good bladder and bowel management, care of the skin and nutrition.

If you work in this area within a healthcare setting, or feel this would benefit your PA, carer or family member, then this is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable education on spinal cord injury direct from experts such as our SCI Nurse Specialists. It doesn’t matter if you work in the community, for a hospital, agency or care organisation, or are a friend or family member; if you are involved in someone’s personal care then this day is designed for you.

We are delighted to confirm that along with members of our SCI Nurse Specialist Team, we are also welcoming speakers from Back Up and Aspire, so the day will also be a great opportunity to learn more about the support these SCI charities provide.

The draft agenda can be viewed here, but if you need more information, contact Karen Mikalsen (01908 604191 x221). The cost to attend is £50 +vat for NHS staff or people working directly with an SIA member, and £100 +vat for others.
