Changing Places toilets to be compulsory from 2021
Following a sustained and determined campaign by disability campaigners, the Government has made the very welcome announcement that large accessible toilets for disabled people – known as Changing Places toilets – will be made compulsory for new buildings in England from 2021. This major change for building rules in England means that at least one of the 12sq metre toilets, with facilities including hoists, changing benches and space for carers, will be incorporated into all new public buildings such as shopping centres, supermarkets, sports and arts venues and motorway service stations.
