National Disability Strategy survey - act now!

The Government is currently developing a National Strategy for Disabled People, which is due to be published in Spring 2021. To help them understand the barriers that disabled people face, and how to improve the lives of disabled people, they have launched a survey to hear different views and learn more about people’s experiences.

The survey asks about your life experiences, either as a disabled person, a carer, or parent, or as someone who has an interest in disability issues and is open until 23 April 20201.  However, and somewhat controversially, responses received before 13 February 2021 will inform the development of the Strategy, while those received after 13th February will be used to inform the Strategy delivery.

A number of organisations have expressed their serious concerns about the quality of the consultation process, and the lack of meaningful engagement with disabled people and Disabled People’s Organisations. They have asked for the development phase of the Strategy to be extended, to allow for a proper consultation process to take place and real, meaningful engagement between Disabled People’s Organisations and the Government as the Disability Strategy is developed.

If you would like to take part in the survey, and use your experiences to inform the Strategy development, the link to the survey is here: https://disabilityunit.citizenspace.com/cabinet-office/ukdisabilitysurvey/
