Supreme court ruling on bedroom tax

The supreme court has ruled against the UK government’s attempts to force the bedroom tax on 155 partners of people with severe disabilities.

SIA is delighted to see this significant judgement from the Supreme Court about the so-called ‘bedroom tax’. Many people need a second bedroom because of disability, including SCI people. By reinforcing the primacy of the Human Rights Act, the Supreme Court has ensured that disabled people shouldn’t be financially penalised for having their needs met. We hope the Department of Work and Pensions now acts quickly in reviewing and fully complying with this hugely important ruling.
