Our submission to APPG on Vulnerable Groups to Pandemics
A cross-party group of parliamentarians who represent the interests of people with underlying health conditions that make them vulnerable to pandemics
The APPG on Vulnerable Groups to Pandemics was founded by MPs and Peers concerned about the needs of vulnerable groups in pandemics, with the aim of encouraging greater priority for prevention, treatment and support by:
- Raising awareness of vulnerable people
- Encouraging actions that promote a higher priority for prevention, treatment and support
- Providing an effective voice in Parliament to represent vulnerable people with health conditions
- Informing better policy decisions for the needs of vulnerable groups
This is vital, potentially life-saving, work. People with underlying medical conditions have faced the worst effects of the pandemic, and have struggled to access the necessary protection, support and health services they needed – which has compounded the direct health risk from Covid-19.
To help ensure people with underlying health conditions are protected and supported during future pandemics, the APPG has been conducting an enquiry to understand vulnerability to Covid-19 and the lessons that can be learned. This is so the APPG can make recommendations to the Government about the needs of vulnerable groups, and help to inform better long-term health policy decision making. We’ve made a comprehensive submission to the APPG.
