World SCI Day 2020

Today is World Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Day 2020. This international event sets out to increase awareness amongst the public as to what SCI is and what it means to live with the condition. Each year the awareness day has a theme and this year it is ‘Covid-19 and SCI: Staying well’.

Many people living with SCI are vulnerable to the complications of Covid-19 because of having suppressed immune systems or respiratory issues. That is why SIA responded urgently to the emergence of the pandemic, so that we could provide the expert information and advice needed by people living with SCI, and continue to provide our vital services despite social distancing measures.

We achieved this by redeploying our teams to provide telephone, email, and online support to anyone with concerns about Covid-19 and SCI. We’ve increased the hours of our Support Line (0800 980 0501) so you can now call us Monday to Friday from 9am – 5pm.

Covid-19 will be with us for some time to come and that is why we are committed to being the go-to source of information and advice for people living with SCI. The following video highlights the impact our services have had throughout the pandemic and the need for such crucial support. If you or anyone you know living with SCI needs our help, please call our Support Line on 0800 980 0501 or visit our dedicated Covid-19 pages here.
