World SCI Day, Tuesday 5 September 2017

World SCI Day is the international day dedicated to highlighting issues around spinal cord injury and this year took place on took place on Tuesday 5 September.   The global theme was yes we can, which celebrated the achievements of spinal cord injured people (SCI) everywhere.

SIA took part, alongside other UK charities, with people encouraged to follow us on twitter @spinalinjuries  and join us in the whiteboard challenge.   A big thank you to everyone who took part and shared their whiteboard challenge with the #yeswecan hashtag.  Just visit us on twitter to see some of the shares.

In line with the international theme we have also shared personal stories from Spinal Injuries Ireland which describe the different challenges faced by SCI individuals, Aengus and John. Our friends at Livability have also shared two stories from Nepal showing  what is possible when comprehensive rehabilitation services are available in low-income countries.

Menawhile,  our Chair, Michelle Howard, has also marked the day by providing her thoughts on progress made to date to secure a fulfilled life for everyone affected by spinal cord injury. Read Michelle’s blog here and download the personal stories below:
