Congratulations to our SCI Nurse Specialists

Congratulations to Carol Adcock and Debbie Green, our SCI Nurse Specialists, who were awarded the Paul Kennedy Presentation Award at the recent MASCIP (Multidisciplinary Association for Spinal Cord Injury Professionals) Conference.  Their presentation was titled ‘Developments in enhancing neurogenic bowel management and provision’ and covered the work that SIA have undertaken to improve bowel care provision in non-SCI specialist settings.  Results of this work have included the NHS Patient Safety Alert on bowel care, and collaboration in a joint statement on bowel care management with MASCIP, BASCIS (British Association of Spinal Cord Injury Specialists) and the RCN (Royal College of Nursing).

SIA has followed up the issue of the Alert by providing expert guidelines to every NHS Trust and doubled the education programme provided by Carol and Debbie on neurogenic bowel management.  In addition to this our Nurse Specialists also continue to provide support to SCI individuals receiving care in a district general hospital or rehabilitation setting.  More details of this service.
