Ready, set, go: tips for travelling with confidence after spinal cord injury – an online spotlight event

On Thursday 12 March 2026 we were excited to invite our members and those who support them to a FREE online spotlight event from the Frank Williams Academy.

It was all about confidence, preparation and reclaiming independence – one trip at a time. Whether you’re planning your first trip or looking to build more independence, this session will offer some tips and encouragement to help you travel with confidence, making each outing easier and more enjoyable.

Our clinical specialists and lived experience contributors will explore how to plan ahead, research accessibility, manage anxiety and challenge common myths that hold people back. You’ll hear from them how to prepare essential equipment and supplies, navigate transport options and handle unexpected challenges. We’ll finish with guidance for returning home, checking your skin, reflecting on what worked and adjusting for next time. We hope you leave with a ‘travel toolkit’ you can rely on whenever you need it.

The session included:

  • Planning ahead: visualising the goals
  • Preparing essentials: getting equipped
  • Outing and transport: navigating the journey
  • Returning home: reflecting, adjusting, learning
  • Panel discussions
