What Matters survey 2025
Tell us what matters to you … have your say and make a real difference
What should we fight for? What support do you need? What partnerships could transform our sector? Your insights will guide our campaigns, connections, and long-term vision.
The survey is until 9am on Monday 10 March.
Our What Matters? survey last year gave us invaluable information about what matters to people with spinal cord injury, their families and people working in the sector. Last year we managed to get over 900 people to complete the survey. Now, with the recent discovery that the number of individuals affected by spinal cord injury is nearly double our previous estimates, it’s more critical than ever to amplify these voices. Together, we can ensure that our work resonates with what truly matters to our growing community.
We’re eager to hear from you so tell us; what services should we be giving you? What should we be campaigning for? What matters to you?
Thank you in advance for taking the time to complete this important survey. Please share the survey with others in the spinal cord injury community – thank you for being part of our movement for change!

Our What Matters? survey
Spinal Injuries Association has been conducting this annual survey since 2021 to better understand the main obstacles for people with spinal cord injuries (SCI) in the UK.
Your input helps us to shape our existing and future programmes and campaigns, with the aim of creating a better future for the spinal cord injury community. We will continue to amplify your voices where they need to be heard most and be ambitious in our drive for a fulfilled life for all of our members.
Last year we received responses from over 900 people with SCI and their friends and family. Below are some of the key findings:
51% of people continue to be worried about their bowel management needs going unmet, especially in general healthcare settings
More than a third of people who said they’d had a pressure ulcer in the past year felt it wasn’t diagnosed correctly
Nearly 70% of respondents shared that they had experienced mental health challenges
91% had difficulties accessing public transport
