More than diet: healthy living with spinal cord injury

  • Thursday 24 September 2026
  • 6.30 – 8.30pm

Join us for an open and supportive member spotlight event exploring nutrition and healthy living with spinal cord injury (SCI). This session will take a holistic look at how food, body function, and identity are interconnected after SCI, covering topics such as maintaining a balanced diet, managing weight, and navigating body image changes, including common experiences like shifts in body shape.

We’ll also address the practical barriers many people face, from difficulties monitoring weight to challenges accessing exercise, ensuring the conversation is inclusive of all injury levels, including those with limited mobility. Importantly, we’ll explore how nutrition impacts key body functions such as bowel care, as well as day-to-day comfort and fit in a wheelchair.

Alongside honest discussion, the session will offer practical strategies to support healthy eating habits, realistic approaches to movement and exercise, and ways to build confidence and control in your routine. This is a space to learn from others and discover achievable ways to support your health and wellbeing with SCI.

Eating well and moving our bodies is essential for good health and becomes even more important after a spinal cord injury because we are more likely to gain weight and develop the conditions associated with being overweight. Visit our website and download the factsheet for more information:
