Gary Dawson SIA support network manager

Gary Dawson

In 2003 following a freak motorbike accident Gary was given the devastating news that I had sustained a Spinal Cord Injury, leaving him paralysed from the chest down.

As part of his rehabilitation he was introduced to the Spinal Injuries Association, who helped him to rebuild his life back to independence.

Gary started volunteering with SIA when he was in rehabilitation, and for a few years he chatted with in-patients at Southport’s Spinal Unit. A chance meeting with an SIA support worker in Manchester led to Gary applying for the role of community peer support officer; he’s worked at SIA ever since then.
