Meet our keynote speaker: Saffron Creswell
Saffron Cresswell (24) from Malvern was competing internationally across Europe as a professional event rider when she sustained a spinal cord injury after a fall from her horse. Less than a year later, she was competing in wheelchair racing and back to living a full and active life. Saffron took up wheelchair racing the week she left rehab and is now racing competitively. While still early in her recovery, Saffron has thrown herself back into her busy lifestyle, returned to coaching, and is now aiming to become a sports presenter. In her sporting life, she is currently focusing on wheelchair racing but looks forward to trying out new sports, including skiing.
When I fell, I instantly knew that something was very wrong, I couldn’t feel my legs. I had such a path in my life that I was ready to take – aiming for the Olympics in the future in my sport. To have that taken away from you at a young age is a massive thing that people don’t ever wish to experience.
Key lead in event: Building a UK SCI strategy – insights from Canada (Wednesday 9 July)
We were excited to host a special webinar where experts from Canada working at the spinal cord injury research and innovation organisation, Praxis will share their journey in developing a national spinal cord injury (SCI) strategy.
