We will hear about lived experience from one of our members with spinal cord injury as well as from their partner to gain insight into how they prevent any health and equipment challenges whilst travelling and how they manage if they do occur. We will also talk to an experienced health professional in how they would advise to manage health concerns when travelling and also gain insight from their vast experience in aviation medicine.

Meet our guests

Ed Jackson is a former professional rugby player who became a walking quadriplegic after a life-changing spinal cord injury left him partially paralysed. Defying the odds, Ed not only relearned how to walk but has since summited some of the world’s most challenging mountains, inspiring countless people with his resilience and determination. Now a motivational speaker, presenter, and co-founder of Millimetres 2 Mountains, a charity dedicated to helping people overcome life-changing trauma through nature and adventure, Ed’s journey highlights the power of mindset and perseverance in the face of adversity.

Lois Jackson is a life coach, mental health advocate, and co-founder of Millimetres 2 Mountains. Having supported Ed through his spinal cord injury and recovery, Lois understands the emotional and physical challenges faced by carers and loved ones. Her work as a life coach focuses on helping individuals build resilience, prioritize self-care, and find balance while navigating life’s challenges. Lois’s compassionate approach and personal journey make her an inspiring voice for those supporting others through trauma and change.

Hi, I’m Mark Jarratt. I qualified as a registered nurse in January of 1985. My first role was as a staff nurse in acute medicine. Joining the staff at the National Spinal Injuries Centre (NSIC) at Stoke Mandeville Hospital in July of 1985. Working there in various roles from staff nurse to charge nurse and eventually the practice development and respiratory nurse for the unit. Eventually leaving the unit in the January of 2015. During my time at the NSIC I became involved with aviation medicine and eventually brought back over 1000 patients from abroad. I worked for a few years as a clinical advisor to a travel insurer before returning to the SCI field and joined the SIA in January of 2022 as an SCI Clinical Nurse Specialist covering London and the South East.
