Social media community guidelines

These guidelines are in place to help create a safe, supportive environment on Spinal Injury Association’s social media channels and reflect our values – collaborative, compassionate, courageous and inclusive.

These guidelines apply to anyone who actively engages with SIA on any of the official SIA social media channels.

What we welcome

Our channels are a place where comments and questions are encouraged. We ask that everyone contributes with respect, kindness and understanding.

We encourage:

  • Questions, discussion and sharing of experiences
  • Supportive and respectful conversations
  • Constructive debate where people listen to others’ perspectives
  • The sharing of content so SIA can reach more people

What we don’t allow

To help keep our community safe, we may hide or remove posts that:

  • Contain abusive, threatening, hateful, or discriminatory language, including racism or comments targeting protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010
  • Include harassment, trolling, or deliberately disruptive behaviour
  • Promote or advertise commercial products or services (spam)
  • Contain irrelevant or repetitive content that does not contribute constructively to the discussion
  • Include links to inappropriate, unsafe, or unrelated external content
  • Contain illegal, explicit, or harmful material
  • Violate copyright or intellectual property rights
  • Breach the terms of the social media platform

Breaches of these guidelines

Users posting spam, trolling, or sharing discriminatory or abusive comments may be blocked, particularly in cases of repeated or serious breaches.

We reserve the right to:

  • Determine, at our discretion, whether content breaches these guidelines
  • Hide or delete comments
  • Block users who repeatedly or seriously break the rules
  • Report content to the relevant social media platform

Moderation

All comments on SIA social media accounts are moderated, in line with these community guidelines, and during working hours. On occasion there will be gaps in moderating, and inappropriate comments may temporarily be seen by others. All moderation decisions are final.
