Parliamentarians have joined people with lived experience, and their representative charities in writing to the Prime Minister to call for national standards, accountability, and equitable access of care to be safeguarded.

NHS specialised services support people with a range of rare and complex conditions – including spinal cord injuries, chemotherapy, and hand transplants. Historically they have been commissioned at a national level, but NHS England announced their plan to transfer commissioning responsibility and oversight for most of these services after the abolition of NHS England and merge with the Department of Health and Social Care.

As the Health Bill is debated in the House of Lords, organisations representing over 10 million patients are highlighting the importance of national oversight for specialised services. Currently, these organisations do not believe that there are sufficient safeguards to ensure consistency and accountability across the country.
