Our impact: halfway to 2030
Three and a half years ago, we launched Strategy 2030 with an ambitious vision: a fulfilled life for everyone affected by spinal cord injury.
At the halfway point, we’re reflecting on the progress we’ve made together, what we’ve learned and what comes next. Behind that progress are people finding support, building confidence and navigating life after spinal cord injury.
We’ve strengthened our services, expanded our reach and increased our influence. But we know there are many more people who need us.
Reaching more people
Our membership continues to grow, keeping us on track towards our ambition of doubling our membership by 2030. Behind every new member is someone discovering that they don’t have to face life after spinal cord injury alone.
Yet we still reach only a fraction of people living with spinal cord injury across the UK. The next stage of our strategy will focus on reaching more people, wherever they live.
Strengthening specialist support
Over the past three years, we’ve significantly increased the number of support sessions we provide. Demand continues to rise, with people coming to us with increasingly complex health, care and advocacy needs, often at moments of crisis.
We’re investing in our services, partnerships, digital resources and collaboration with the NHS to make specialist support available to more people.
Helping people move forward
Support takes time, trust and connection. Many of our members access several parts of SIA, from clinical advice and counselling to advocacy, community groups and trusted information.
Together, these services help people build confidence, reduce isolation and regain independence, with support that reflects their needs.
Making our voices heard
Our influence has grown. We’re helping shape national conversations about spinal cord injury and ensuring that people’s experiences are heard where decisions are made.
Working alongside Parliament, government departments, NHS England and partner organisations, we’ve helped improve services and influence policy. Together, we’re building on that progress to push for further change.
Improving care through education
Lasting change depends on the knowledge and confidence of the professionals supporting people with spinal cord injury.
We’ve substantially increased the number of healthcare professionals receiving our specialist education. Every professional trained has the potential to improve care for many people throughout their career, extending our impact far beyond our own services.
Building a sustainable future
Our progress is made possible by the generosity and commitment of our supporters.
Growing sustainable income gives us greater confidence to plan ahead and invest in the services people rely on. It helps us ensure that people affected by spinal cord injury can continue to turn to us when they need support.
Looking ahead
Reaching the halfway point is a moment to reflect and build on everything we’ve achieved together.
We’ve helped thousands more people navigate life after spinal cord injury. Now, we must reach further, strengthen our support and continue working for lasting change.
Our vision remains the same: a fulfilled life for everyone affected by spinal cord injury. With our members, supporters, partners and volunteers, we’re ready for the next chapter.
Look how far we’ve come. But we’re not finished yet …
The aim of our Strategy 2030 is to reach everyone with a spinal cord injury, to tackle whatever barriers they face, and to connect them to all the help and support they need to flourish in their lives, in the way they want and choose.
