Managing the neurogenic bowel after SCI

About this course

This module is a face-to-face skills and education training day for small groups of attendees, either held inhouse at the requestor’s site, or as a scheduled session for individuals to book onto.

Participants examine the theory and practice that underpins effective management of the neurogenic bowel, from a combination of presentations and practical assessment on an anatomical model. Following a morning of presentations and discussion, learning is evaluated via a written test, and delegates who obtain the required pass mark move onto a one-to-one practical assessment session where they are assessed on their skills to safely undertake digital rectal examination, digital rectal stimulation and digital removal of faeces using an anatomical training model.

NB: Our clinicians do not sign delegates off as competent in these areas; delegates are observed undertaking the procedures and the clinician will confirm they have demonstrated the requisite education and skills on that date on an anatomical training model. Ongoing supervision and monitoring are the responsibility of the delegate’s workplace.

This module is aimed specifically at professionals involved in the personal care of people with spinal cord injury who require education in this area plus practical skills training in digital rectal examination, digital rectal stimulation and digital removal of faeces. There are separate days for Registered Nurses and HCAs/personal assistants/carers, with the content tailored for their needs.

Cost

£2000 +VAT for up to 8 delegates,  Limited number of additional delegates can be added for £250 +VAT per person.

Cost includes a delegate workbook to be provided on the day.

When available, sessions for individuals will be at a cost of £250 +VAT.

NB: Payment must be made prior to the session date.
