SIA’s Eastern European Adventure will see riders taking in the sights, sounds and culture of four countries, giving intrepid adventurers the chance to take on Croatia, Austria, Hungary and Slovenia over the course of an exciting five day trip.
As with all of our overseas cycles, this event will be fully accessible for hand-cyclists, and both the route and accommodation will be designed to maximize the enjoyment of all riders looking to participate – whilst still providing a challenge.
Flights, accommodation, bike hire and all food and drink throughout the challenge are included, and participants will receive a limited edition SIA cycling jersey, fundraising pack and more.
Day 1: morning flight to Zagreb, and transfer to accommodation for the first night in Ptuj (Slovenia).
Bike fitting, welcome dinner and briefing for the challenge ahead, with the option of group rides or walks in the local area.
Day 2: Ptuj (Slovenia) to Bad Radkersburg (Austria) – 81 kilometres cycling
The challenge starts with a stretch of sharp uphill climbs through quiet, picturesque villages, before a gentle descent following the banks of the River Mura, towards the border town of Radgona. After lunch the trip continues through woodlands with stunning lake views, heading towards Bad Radkersburg, a beautiful medieval town in Austria.
Day 3: Bad Radkersburg (Austria) to Memesnep (Hungary) – 90 kilometres cycling
The day begins with a flat trip for the first 15 kilometres, before climbing again into the incredible Goricko national park – famed for its lakes, marshes and wide-spanning Oak forests. the day continues with a ride through the small farms and orchards that proliferate the area, before a climb up to Grad Castle (one of the oldest and largest Castles in Europe) for a picnic lunch.
After a short break you will continue on through rolling hills towards the Hungarian border, through lush meadows and forests – where if you are lucky you might see deer, wild boar and more!
For an extra treat you will spend the night in a country club nestled deep in the Hungarian forest complete with swimming pool, sauna, and tennis courts!
Day 4: Memesnep (Hungary) to Gyrkavescap (Croatia) – 82 Kilometres cycling
The last leg of the challenge starts off on Hungarian country lanes, before crossing back into Slovenia, visiting the 18th century town of Lendava. From there it is a short trip back to Croatia – meaning that you will be visiting three countries to finish off the trip.
The final evening is spent in log cabins, with the chance to relax in thermal pools, or to play a quick round of golf (if you have any energy left). The night ends with a celebratory meal and a chance to recap all the highlights of the challenge, paired with some superb home cooking and wine produced from the local gardens.
Day 5: Afternoon transfer to Zagreb airport and flight home
The morning is yours to explore the local area, before a short transfer back to Zagreb. Plenty of time spare for picking up souvenirs (and stopping at duty free) before the flight back to the UK – and the chance for a well-earned break!
We are hoping this will be a trip of a lifetime, and we want to have our biggest team ever joining us to help raise vital funds and awareness as part of #TeamSIA!
