SIA named Charity of the Year at NR Times Awards 2024
We are thrilled to have been named Charity of the Year by Neuro Rehab Times at the NR Times Awards 2024
The annual awards span 14 categories that recognise the work of individuals and organisations specialising in brain and spinal injuries. The panel were particularly struck by SIA’s ambitious 2030 strategy that aims to support as many people as possible living with spinal cord injuries, with a health and care system that works for them, a government and public championing the cause, and access to SIA’s network of services.
Winner: Spinal Injuries Association (shortlisted: Headway Derby / The Silverlining)
The winners were announced at a virtual ceremony on Friday 29 November.
Head of Services, Dan Burden, accepted the award on behalf of SIA. He said,
“This is an amazing birthday present for an organisation that is 50 years young this year. While we celebrate our achievements over the past half century, we are focused firmly on what lies ahead and on helping remove the barriers which prevent our members living fulfilled lives of their choosing.”
“The need has never been greater. Over 105,000 people live with spinal cord injury in the UK and more than 4,400 people are newly injured every year.
“Sustaining a spinal cord injury is life-changing but it is not life-ending. With the right advice, advocacy and support, living a fulfilled life after spinal cord injury is not only possible, it is a right. Every day we strive to make this a reality for our membership of over 20,000 people.”
Support line officer, Teresa Skinner, also received special commendation for the Inspirational Contribution award, with judges highlighting her incredibly important work and noting her dedication to helping others.
