SIA welcomes a new support coordinator
We are delighted to welcome Leana Rose as our new support coordinator for the South central region, covering Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Hertfordshire and Northamptonshire.
Meet Leana
I was injured in 1996 in a RTC and sustained a T9 complete spinal cord injury. I spent 10 days in the QE Norfolk and was then repatriated to Stoke Mandeville Spinal Unit where I underwent spinal fixation followed by 3 months of rehab.
At the time I didn’t know anyone with a spinal injury so didn’t know what life was going to be like or what I was still able to do. Speaking to people and voicing my concerns or worries was so important. I soon came to realise that I could lead a fulfilled happy life which was no different to anyone else – I was just doing it seated.
I have been lucky enough to travel all over the world meeting some amazing people. I learnt to snow-ski and water-ski. I’ve skydived, cycled around Malawi, got married, became a mum and spent the last 13 years working as a HLTA/Teacher in a primary school. It certainly hasn’t stopped me!”
